> Mobile Tip: On your phone, you can start with photos first! Tap the photo upload area and select multiple images at once from your camera roll. This makes it easy to capture an heirloom from every angle before adding the details.
Object Summary
- Give your object a meaningful name (e.g., "Grandmother Rose's Wedding Quilt")
- Select the category that best describes it (Textiles & Fiber Arts, Jewelry, Furniture, etc.)
- Add a brief description of what makes this object special
The Maker's Story
This is where the magic happens! Record:
- Who made or owned this object?
- When and where was it created?
- What was the occasion or purpose?
Physical Description
- Upload photos from multiple angles
- Note the materials, dimensions, and condition
- Document any markings, signatures, or labels
Personal Significance
- Why is this object meaningful to your family?
- What memories does it evoke?
- Who will inherit it next?
Step 4: Organize with Collections
Collections help you group related objects together. Consider creating collections like:
- "Grandma Rose's Treasures"
- "Wedding & Anniversary Items"
- "Kitchen Heirlooms"
- "Military Service Memorabilia"
To create a collection:
- Click "Collections" in the sidebar
- Click "New Collection"
- Name it and add a description
- Assign objects to your collection
Step 5: Share or Export
Once you've documented an object, you can:
- Generate a PDF for your records or insurance documentation
- Share the story with family members
- Request an AI valuation to understand its heritage value
Pro Tips for Better Documentation
- Take photos in good lighting - Natural daylight works best
- Capture details - Photograph any labels, signatures, or wear patterns
- Interview family members - They may know stories you don't
- Document now - Stories fade with time; capture them while you can
- Be specific - "Made by Great-Aunt Martha in 1952" is better than "old family quilt"
- Use your phone - Mobile uploads let you batch multiple photos at once
